En atorgar el premi Dignitat a Julian Assange
PRESS RELEASE ON THE DIGNITY PRIZE AWARDED TO JULIAN ASSANGE London. 11.12.2020 The Dignity Prize was presented to Julian Assange today at 11.00 am in front of the Westminster Court in London where the trial is being held to decide whether the United Kingdom extradites the founding journalist of Wikileaks to the United States. The Dignity Award granted by the Dignity Commission consists of a letter "D" and has been awarded in the past to personalities and organizations such as Neus Català, Jordi Borràs, journalists Carlos Enrique Bayo and Patricia López, No Woman in Oblivion or the comedian Ferreres. In the parliament that Júlia Strubell Prats read on behalf of the Dignity Commission, the fact that the Commission wanted to recognize in Julian Assange “the very essence of democratic journalism based on transparency and the right of citizens” was emphasized. In awarding the prize, the Commission would also like to thank Julian Assange for his support of the Catalan People's Right to Self-Determination, as well as the valuable help he offered to the possibility of the Referendum on October 1, 2017. The event was organized by the Julian Assange Defense Committee in London, and a large banner was unfurled calling for Assange's release in line with what was demanded by many human rights organizations the world and, in particular, by UN observer Nils Melzer this week. Assange is currently held in Belmarsh prison where he is subjected to unhuman conditions, even depriving him of the reception of warm clothes in the last days of intense cold, according to his partner Stella Moris. Receiving the award on behalf of the Julian Assange Defense Committee, a representative of this organization spoke of Julian Assange's ideal of "developing friendly relations between nations, based on respect for the principle of equal rights and the right to self-determination of the peoples and also the need to “take appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace.” He also recalled how Julian Assange “offered his solidarity in the only way he could. While he was arbitrarily detained at the Ecuadorian Embassy in the United Kingdom. He followed the events that were taking place in Catalonia, informed the world through social media, and witnessed the freedom of expression of the people involved in those events. "We must always to remember that freedom is not divisible", he added to his parliament. At the event there were also words of rejection of the repression suffered by the Catalan people since the independence process, with the government of Carles Puigdemont in exile and in prison and with about 3000 persecuted by the Spanish justice and police to defend inalienable rights. We include photos of the event and the full parliaments of the participants and a link to the video about the Assange award that was viewed at the event held in Barcelona on January 9 to announce the award. https://www.racocatala.cat/noticia/50478/entrega-premi-dignitat-julian-assange-londres https://www.vilaweb.cat/noticies/premi-dignitat-julian-assange-judici-extradicio-estats-units/ https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/politica/comissio-dignitat-homenatja-julian-assange-premi-dignitat_564840_102.html https://www.naciodigital.cat/noticia/212965/julian-assange-rep-premi-dignitat-suport-al-dret-autodeterminacio-catalunya
