This is the official website of the Dignity Commission. A Law passed by the Spanish Congress last year opened the door to the return of a large portion of the documents stolen from the Catalan people by the Francoists at the end of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). In the first months of 2006, the Catalan Generalitat Government's documents returned and, before 2007, the rest of the private documents which are currently being classified in Salamanca are due to return.
The two categories of documents which are as yet awaiting a formula for their return are Valencian institutional documents and municipal ones from the whole Catalan-speaking area, which for some obscure reason are still to be held at Salamanca in the forseeable future. They were taken there in 1939. Over the last few months and years, many scholars and other people interested in the question of the return of the Salamanca Documents have been calling for information on the process.
Thank you very much.
